Early Life and Career Beginnings:
Matthew Stafford was born in 1988 to parents Margaret and John. He has a younger sister named Page, who he grew up while his father attended graduate school at the University of Georgia. Later on, they moved from Dunwoody, Georgia to Dallas where Matthew went off to Highland Park High School as well-coached by Randy Allen before leading them during the 2005-2006 season which ended successfully for him – 15-0 record (UIL 4A Division I State Championship). For many years after that, Stafford was considered one of the best high school quarterbacks in the nation and ranked among Rivals’ Top 25 players nationally.
Graduating from high school in 2006, Stafford enrolled at the University of Georgia and became the first freshman quarterback to start for them since 1998. Late in their opener against Western Kentucky, he passed 40 yards with a 48-12 victory. The rest of his season was inconsistent but following two home losses head coach Mark Richt named him the starter for the remainder of it. He completed 20 out of 32 passes 267 yards 2 touchdowns defeating Mississippi State then had the best game versus Tennessee winning over that opponent by 7 points on November 17th 2007. Georgia lost to archrival Auburn in SEC Championship Game, but Stafford finished the season with great statistics:
In 2007, Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford helped lead the team to an 11-2 record and became only the second person in school history with 3,000 career passing yards. The following season was even better for this rising star as he led his Bulldogs into battle against three of their rivals: Florida (defeated), Auburn (defeated) and Georgia Tech( defeated). His undefeated 2008 campaign marked him out as a major contender for not just Heisman but also national championships.
Stafford signed a six-year contract with the Detroit Lions valued at $78 million, making him the first-overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. Stafford became the youngest quarterback to start Week 1 since 1968 when he led the team from last place in 2008 to NFC North champions and has thrown five touchdowns against Cleveland Brown’s single-game record for rookie quarterbacks.
Stafford has been in the NFL for 12 years and he set a lot of records. The most notable one was when he became the fourth quarterback to throw 5,000 yards in 2012 while playing against Green Bay Packers after recording 520 passing yards that season. Stafford is also recognized as the fastest player ever with 40,000 career yardage at 147 games; breaking Dan Marino’s record by eight seasons! He ranks third all-time on pass completions (4th), pass attempts (5th) passing touchdowns (8th).
